The 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) took place October 2024, in Cali, Colombia. This was the first COP since the adoption of the historic agreement adopted in Montreal and was an important indicator of the level of commitment worldwide. Countries were required to submit their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) at this time. In addition, in depth negotiations on resource mobilization, the monitoring framework and role of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in protecting biodiversity took place.
The COP saw high participation including hundreds of NGOs, Indigenous representatives, businesses, governments, and civil society organizations, all united behind a clear mission to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030.
The Nature Positive Initiative convened several events, spaces and press conferences to move the needle towards greater action to reverse nature loss and deliver a nature-positive world. The Nature Positive Pavilion was well attended, several events focused on state of nature metrics, bringing together large and wide ranging audiences, press conferences generated further media attention, and many in person meetings between key stakeholders took place.
