Turning global environmental commitments into coordinated, place-based action requires stronger connections between national priorities, corporate targets, and spatial planning. This session will explore how shared science, spatial data, and planning frameworks can help governments and companies align action and investment to accelerate implementation of the Rio Conventions.
Achieving the ambitions of the Rio Conventions will require coordinated action across governments, businesses, NGOs, local stakeholders, and other partners, working together to bridge key gaps in spatial planning, resource mobilization, implementation, and the scaling of effective action. This session will explore how shared science, spatial data, and planning approaches can help governments translate national commitments into spatial priorities while enabling companies to set credible, place-based targets and align investments with national objectives. Speakers will share practical perspectives from SBTN’s Land Targets, Conservation International’s integrated spatial planning work, and UNDP’s experience with the UN Biodiversity Lab as a tool for governments. The discussion will highlight opportunities to strengthen connections between corporate commitments and national frameworks, including NBSAPs, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and Land Degradation Neutrality targets.
