Scaling action for nature: using circular economy to accelerate the delivery of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF)

This side event promotes important – but underutilised – synergies between the circular economy transition and the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). It positions circular economy approaches and business models as concrete and scalable solutions for mainstreaming biodiversity across economic sectors, accelerating the delivery of biodiversity targets.

With biodiversity target delivery lagging and the global biodiversity finance gap estimated at $700 billion per year, wider uptake of circular approaches and business models could help mainstream biodiversity considerations across sectors and mobilise funding towards practices that reduce pressures on — and help regenerate — biodiversity. They can also offer countries an economically compelling alternative for redirecting harmful subsidies.

This side event is part of a series of events at COP17 by EMF and partners to highlight how circular economy can accelerating the delivery of the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) targets, including a number of events taking place across the venue, available via link here.
