On the frontlines of nature, peace and security

Location: Main Room

Organizers: WWF International, Conflict and Environment Observatory, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), Conservation International (CI)

Biodiversity hotspots and critical ecosystems are increasingly exposed to the threats posed by armed conflicts and insecurity. But what does it take to protect nature in these settings? And why is it vital for the implementation of the KMGBF that we are able to do so?

Through sharing stories and experiences we’ll explore the tools and approaches that are making conservation possible in these settings, and how conservation activities are already contributing to human security and to peacebuilding.

But our sector is still at the beginning of its journey, so we’ll also discuss how it is changing, what remains to be done, and how these changes relate to the emerging field of nature, peace and security. We’ll also discuss what comes next, particularly as we look ahead to the Parks Congress in 2027.
