Can We Measure a Nature-Positive and Human-Positive Future? Exploring how new metrics can reshape development, policy, and our relationship with nature.
How we measure progress shapes the decisions governments, businesses, and societies make. Yet measures of human development and measures of Nature have largely evolved along separate tracks. This interactive dialogue brings together leaders behind UNDP’s emerging Nature Relationship Index and the Nature Positive Initiative’s work on state-of-nature metrics to explore the possibility of more complete picture of progress. Through a series of conversations, speakers will debate whether nature-positive outcomes require changes in human values, whether governments manage only what they measure, and whether a country’s development success should be judged in part by the quality of its relationship with nature.
