Walking the talk: mapping and governing territories for inclusive conservation

Main Room

Drawing the Future of Conservation Maps, mandates, and Indigenous leadership in action.

Through the GEF-7 Inclusive Conservation Initiative (ICI), Indigenous Peoples are leading efforts to secure rights, document ancestral lands, and co-govern biodiversity-rich territories. This session highlights Indigenous-led territorial mapping and governance initiatives across Africa, Latin America, and Asia that embody biocultural approaches to conservation. From life plans to community protocols and legal recognition, these tools strengthen Indigenous governance, resolve land conflicts, and support inclusive conservation rooted in traditional knowledge. Join ICI partners as they share how mapping and co-governance are transforming conservation into a rights-based, community-driven, and nature-positive movement.
