From Fragmentation to Alignment: Advancing Rio Conventions Synergies to Deliver the Global Biodiversity Framework
This session will explore the evolution of the Rio Conventions synergies agenda, building on recent momentum following decisions taken at CBD COP16. It will present a forward-looking view of how alignment across biodiversity, climate, and land degradation frameworks has progressed over time, highlighting key milestones and outcomes from CBD, UNFCCC, and UNCCD processes. The discussion will focus on how improved coordination across the three conventions can strengthen implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), particularly by enhancing policy coherence, optimizing resource use, and aligning national planning instruments such as NBSAPs, NDCs, and NAPs. By connecting policy, finance, and implementation pathways, the event will showcase practical opportunities to accelerate integrated action toward the 2030 goals.
