Twenty years after Parties agreed that island biodiversity needed adequate resources, what does the finance that actually worked look like — and how do we put more capital through it?
Twenty years after Parties adopted the CBD Programme of Work on Island Biodiversity, this session asks what made ambitious island conservation commitments endure. Leaders from island governments, conservation trust funds and finance institutions will share lessons from the Micronesia Challenge, Caribbean Challenge Initiative and other island-led efforts that paired political ambition with durable financial institutions. Looking from Curitiba to Yerevan, the discussion will explore how conservation trust funds, endowments, debt conversions and grant facilities can provide the long-term financing nature recovery requires—and how these proven models can help deliver KMGBF Target 19 and national biodiversity commitments.
