From commitments to action: building the scientific infrastructure for nature-positive finance and stronger biodiversity decisions through data, monitoring, and partnerships between science, business and finance.
The transition to nature-positive economies requires businesses and financial institutions to better understand and manage biodiversity-related impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities. Yet significant scientific gaps remain. The Joint Statement Toward Nature-Positive Finance: Scientific Foundations for Action highlights the need for robust biodiversity knowledge, long-term monitoring, interoperable data, indicators, taxonomic expertise and decision-support tools. Building on the CO-OP4CBD technical brief, this side event will explore the complementary scientific foundations needed to translate policy ambitions into effective action. It will bring together research, finance, business and policy communities to discuss how stronger partnerships and knowledge infrastructures can support credible biodiversity strategies and accelerate implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
