Eight Global Targets. One Bioeconomy Plan: Transforming Biodiversity into Sustainable Development in The Amazon
This session will showcase the tangible results and implementation outcomes of Pará’s State Bioeconomy Plan (PlanBio) the Brazil’s pioneer state-level bioeconomy strategy—demonstrating how subnational leadership effectively turns global biodiversity goals into measurable Amazonian landscape management and sustainable development.
Formulated by the State Secretariat for Environment, Climate, and Sustainability (SEMAS/PA), PlanBio represents an unprecedented model of cross-sectoral governance in the Amazon, directly engaging 19 state institutions and more than 40 direct institutional partners. As the first comprehensive subnational bioeconomy strategy in Brazil, PlanBio has served as a policy benchmark and inspiration for other Brazilian states, the federal government, and international subnational jurisdictions.
During the session, SEMAS/PA will present concrete progress, key achievements, and impact indicators from PlanBio, illustrating how it directly advances at least eight core targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF).
