Critical progress in achieving 30x30 at the country level: finance, partnership and political leadership
Target 3 of the Global Biodiversity Framework is one of the most ambitious and high-profile conservation targets yet agreed. However, the CBD Global Review indicates that with 4 years left we are not making progress at the rate needed. Thus, highlighting where large-scale protection is currently being achieved is critical to demonstrating progress and maintaining momentum. This side event highlights government champions who are utilizing innovative large-scale protection initiatives around the world, realized through ground-breaking innovations, including Project Finance for Permanence (PFP), sovereign debt conversions such as Nature Bonds projects, and other large-scale mechanisms. This panel session event will bring together ministers from ~5 countries to outline the key drivers and pathways for achieving 30×30 in their countries and lessons for other countries with a focus on unlocking financing, tackling key ecological representation and qualitative issues, working with Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, and demonstrating leadership towards achieving Target 3.
