Davos, Switzerland – – 20 January 2026: A new short film, ‘Becoming Nature Positive’, is being screened for the first time today at a special green carpet première event at Climate Hub Davos in the Kulturplatz cinema, coinciding with the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting.

Featuring an array of compelling voices and global thought leaders, ‘Becoming Nature Positive’ is an urgent rallying cry, making a clear case for action across business, government and society for a nature positive future in which both people and nature can thrive. The film was produced by award-winning film-makers Open Planet Studios with the Nature Positive Initiative, and is inspired by the book, Becoming Nature Positive: Transitioning to a Safe and Just Future, published in June 2025 by Routledge Earthscan.

The message of the film is that building a nature positive, net zero society and economy is our only way to achieve a safe and just future where people and nature thrive together. It is the best pathway to address today’s ‘development paradox’ of an economic model that destroys its own foundations of healthy, stable and productive natural systems. The film urges leaders and citizens alike to acknowledge our dependence on a healthy natural world, and to take action to halt and reverse the current and dangerous exponential loss of biodiversity.

“We hold the pen and can write the next chapter of humanity’s history, where we choose to live safely and sustainably within planetary boundaries. A chapter of respect and resilience, prosperity and equity underpinned by a thriving planet. The film ‘Becoming Nature Positive’, while recognizing the dangerous path we are on, is about a positive vision of a better and safer world – and most importantly, it inspires a sense of possibility and galvanizes action,” said Marco Lambertini, Convener of the Nature Positive Initiative and Executive Director of the film.

“At its heart, this film is about possibility. We are living through a moment when the systems we depend on are under unprecedented strain, yet the solutions to become nature positive are within reach. Through the power of storytelling, this film sends a timely message that protecting and restoring nature is not a constraint on progress – it is the foundation of a safe, just and thriving future for all,” said Colin Butfield, Co-Founder and Director of Open Planet Studios.

The special première screening event, taking place at the Climate Hub Davos by GreenUp, from 18:30 CET on Tuesday 20 January 2026 – including a green carpet moment plus fireside chats with key figures from the film and wider nature positive movement – is also being livestreamed. ‘Becoming Nature Positive’ has been designated as an official selection for the Nature Without Borders International Film Festival 2026 and a Semifinalist for the New York Indie Shorts Awards 2026. The film is being screened at key events throughout 2026, and will be streamed for free online soon on the WaterBear impact platform. The associated book, co-authored by a diverse range of global nature and sustainability leaders and experts, delves deeper into how the Nature Positive global goal came to be, why it matters, and what it will take to achieve it across business, finance, governance and society. Brazilian edition of the book

The Nature Positive global societal goal to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030 was adopted by 196 countries in the mission of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at the UN Convention on Biological Diversity’s fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP15) in 2022. The goal means ensuring there is more nature in the world tomorrow than today, for the benefit of all. See the Nature Positive goal definition here.
